3 Ways to Grow Your Business in 2018
We all know the definition of an idiot right? Keep doing the same things over and over and expecting different results. As small business owners, we are so busy working on our customers businesses that we don’t take the time to work on our own. If you did that in 2017, but didn’t grow your business and income, then it’s worth taking a few hours at the start of the new year to look at how you can do things differently so that this year you can grow your business and make the money you deserve! Here are three ideas that you can implement quickly for 2018…
1. Clarify Your Message
Many small businesses have very confusing messages. We might be really good at what we do, but we don’t always explain it well. A quick test is to ask a few friends or relatives to look at your website for 10 seconds. Do they understand what you do, what services you offer and how to buy from you? If not, you need to change your messaging to better explain your business. Make it VERY simple and VERY easy for people to understand. Don’t use technical language. Dumb it down. Write a list of 4-6 things you really want people to understand about your business – these are your key messages. Use this throughout the year in your newsletters, presentations, social media and website.
2. Position Yourself as an Expert
You can’t be all things to all people. Find a niche. People hire companies for their expertise or their excellence. They hire you because you are able to solve a problem for them. Maybe it’s that they don’t know how to do their accounting, or they don’t understand social media. They are looking for an expert. If you offer too many things you aren’t an expert and potential customers will move on to someone who is.
3. Find Your Unique Selling Proposition
Give people a reason to buy from you. If you can’t tell them why your business is different from everyone else in your industry then they will buy from someone else. You need to be able to explain what you offer that others don’t, or what you do that is better, faster or unique. This isn’t always as easy as it sounds. If you can’t figure it out, then create something. Prior to Brand Accelerator, I had a general marketing business. There were a million people who did what we did and who did it very well. I was never able to figure out our unique selling proposition so I created a niche by working with small businesses and developed a process to work with them that makes us unique and different. You can do the same thing.
These are small changes that bring big results. Implement them into your business at the start of 2018 and see how your business will grow. Here’s to a great 2018!!
